Proud to be Southern!

On a recent trip to Raleigh, Adelaide and I found this adorable sign and we both had to have one. I love that bench too, but I knew it would not fit in the car! Having been born and raised in North Carolina, this sign just suited both of us to a tee.
In case you can't read the sign, I am writing it here for all to enjoy. It is so cute!!!

The South
\the 'sau'th\, noun

The place where....1) Tea is sweet and accents are sweeter.

2) Summer starts in April.

3) Macaroni & cheese is a vegetable.

4) Front porches are wide and words are long.

5) Pecan pie is a staple.

6) Y'all is the only proper noun.

7) Chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy.

8) Everything is Darlin'.

9) Someone's heart is always being blessed!

Isn't that the sweetest sign you have ever seen? We just loved it. I am going to use mine in our guest room. I am a true Southern woman at heart. If you ever hear me talk, my voice is a total giveaway. I talk very Southern! I wouldn't have it any other way.

Darlins, I hope y'all have a blessed week!

  1. Hi there, Loved this sign-it reminds me of Mississippi and Tennessee. I have a lot of those phrases in my vocabulary as well, especially Mam and Sir. Have a delightful Sunday.

  4. Bless your heart! I LOVE that sign. My husband requested pecan pie for his birthday Friday night and we had fried chicken and iced tea today. I have the accent, too. Where did you find it? I would love one for my home.

  19. Loved the sign!! And I too am proud to be a southern lady!! My voice would definitely give it away, cause I've got a true southern twang!! Can't help it when you've been raised here in NC all your life!! But I too would prefer my tea more on the unsweetened side....just a tinge of sugar added to it, but grew up drinking the pure stuff...loaded down with sugar. Could be why it's hard to tolerate it now!!

  23. Even though I'm from the north, I've lived in NC 11 years now. I can relate to the sign. I must admit macaroni and cheese as a vegetable is still a bit strange to me, but I thinks it's sweet as can be how y'all are always blessin' everybody's heart. I also think true southern accents are so cute.

  25. WOW...it was so much fun to see your (and lots of other women's) love for Cabell's sign. The first time I saw this sign I fell in love with it too. I just so happened to be in a gift shop with my two friends who worked for the artist. Cabell Sweeney is a friend of several friends of mine (two of my best friends used to work for her, as I said before). Anyway, you will recognize her other work as being the cute, popular collegiate pottery.

    Here is her website: http://www.cabellsdesigns.com/index.html
You will find the sign (under a different format) under the canvases section, but I know she wanted to make them more neutral for easier decorating...which she obviously did.

Cabell is a delightful young woman who loves Jesus very much and is committed to Him. She recently lost her husband to cancer...Mike Sweeney, a Young Life Director in GA. A wonderful man.

Thanks for giving a super shout-out to a very talented young artist....hopefully, alot more terrific things to come.

    Enjoy your sign.

    Blessings to you and yours,

    Becky

  27. Ah yes, I figured it was NoFo. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants and gift shops. It is right across the street from my son's school ;-).
