Flight of Honor!!!

My 89 year old Father is leaving this morning to fly to Washington, DC on the Flight of Honor with 104 fellow World War II Veterans. It is sponsored by our local Rotary Club. They will tour the WW II Memorial, The Korean and Vietnam Memorials, the Navy Yard, the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Air Force Memorial.

It will be a day to remember for these WW II Vets. They range in age from 82 to 96. I am so proud of my Dad and all these men who served during the war to protect the freedom that we have today in this county.

I pray that they will have a wonderful and safe trip and that it will be very memorable for all of them. More pictures to come.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

  2. That gives me chills! What a great way to honor the veterans. We have a veteran here who took that trip a couple of years ago with his son. We are studying WWII with our 1st to 5th grade boys in our homeschool Boys Club this year. I'll be sure we talk about this in our upcoming meeting.

  14. Oh we have that in Knoxville, TN. It's called Honor Air and is the best thing ever. Who gets to go with your dad?? Our vets take a family member or friend with them. Everyone goes to the airport to greet them with flags flying and eyes tearing. xoxo
P.S. Maybe you can post pics!!

  20. God bless your Father, and all those traveling with him. We both love that program, every time I see a story on a veteran, or a group of veterans, making the trip I get weepy. My father was WWII Navy, and never saw the Memorial. I wish he had.

Thank you for sharing a picture of yur Dad too!

  22. What a special opportunity for your father. I live in D.C., and love seeing all of the veterans at the memorials. You can tell that it's a powerful experience for them. (I think the WWII memorial is particularly impressive.) I hope he has a wonderful time, and please thank him for his commitment to this country!

  23. Glad you Dad was able to experience this event. We owe so much to our Vets. My Dad was a Marine and was in Guadacanal during WW II. And thanks so much for commenting about making my apple cake. It makes me feel good when other bloggers make my recipes and they turn out well. Have a great day Melinda.

  24. I know you are proud of your dad. I watched on WXII-TV as several of the groups of Vets took this trip. It was so moving listening to their stories as they waited for their flights to leave.
    Love,

  27. My dad was 55 when I was born and he died when he was 80 back in 1996. he served during WWII and he would have loved to have gone to DC to see the WWII Memorial.

I haven't been around lately because there was some not so good stuff going on (say an extra prayer for me), but I'm back to blogging again. :)
