Winter Wonderland!!!

On Saturday, the weathermen in our area said that we MIGHT get a few snow flurries, but nothing to get excited about. The joke was on them. At noon it started snowing and it snowed the rest of the afternoon. We probably got at least 2 inches of snow. Luckily, it did not stick on the roads, so everybody could continue on with their plans, but the ground got covered. The trees were gorgeous and everything certainly looked like a winter wonderland.
This picture is at the Battleground Park, which is right near my house. I loved the way the snow looked on the trees!
The local Christmas tree lot blanketed in snow! Even the big Santa got covered in snow today. People were scurrying around trying to buy their Christmas trees in the snow flurries. It was so festive!!!
In Mom's backyard, her little squirrel was looking everywhere for something to eat. He kept digging in the snow looking for the bird seed that had spilled from the bird feeder. I love to watch the birds and the squirrels!
I took this picture while we were out and about today. I loved the old gate and the trees covered in snow in the background. While Mom and I were out today, we were amazed at God's beauty all around us... Even simple things were so gorgeous covered in snow!

Today was such a fun day. I took my Mom out for the day and we enjoyed our time together. We started out at a local church bazaar. Then we went out to lunch. From there we went to a local "Vintage shop" that has the most gorgeous stuff. They were having their Christmas open house. I bought an old vintage Santa to add to my collection and a hand made Santa ornament. (You know I love my Santas!)

From there Mom and I went to Furniture Land South in High Point to look for a leather recliner for my Dad. High Point is where they have the furniture market twice a year, so the selection there is incredible! ( A bit overwhelming, actually!!!) We found the exact chair that my Dad had and it was on sale at a great price. We were both doing the happy dance over this chair!!!!

Saturday night Tom and I went out to dinner with some of our friends to our favorite restaurant to celebrate my good news and also our friend's birthday. I had a great day!

The only sad note to the day was that my youngest daughter, Adelaide, was supposed to have her White Rose Formal dance with her sorority and it got canceled due to the bad weather where she is in school. The girls had rented houses to stay in where the dance was being held. They were already there settling in to get ready for the dance, when they got news that things had been canceled. Luckily it will be re-scheduled for sometime in January or February, but I know all the girls were really disappointed. Adelaide had a beautiful new dress to wear and she was looking forward to going with her new boyfriend. Oh well, you can't control Mother Nature!

Our first snowfall of the year was so pretty today! I wonder if this is an indication of what is to come this winter?

  2. Your pictures are beautiful. It is snowing here now and if we get the lake effect snow they are talking about, we could end up with a foot of snow. The joys of living so close to Lake Michigan. Good thing I love snow! Sorry to here about Adelaide's dance being canceled. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend. Keep celebrating your wonderful news.

  3. I'm going to do a snow post too! Can you believe it? We were decorating our house and tree listening to Christmas music and watching it snow. It was a GORGEOUS afternoon! (And such a nice surprise!)

Sorry about Adelaide's dance but I'll bet those girls had a GREAT time laughing and talking together....and now they get to do it AGAIN!

  4. Beautiful pictures!! I love to see the snow and how beautiful it makes everything look!! But I do not like to be in it at all, if possible!! Of course, we get very little snow here in our area.

I'm so sorry about Adelaide's dance being canceled....I know she was truly disappointed!!

  7. Melinda, The snow is beautiful!!! I am so jealous. That's the kind of snow I like when the roads are clear. You and your mom sound like you had a wonderful time shopping in all the beauty of the season.
I am so sorry about Adelaide's formal dance ... but they will have it to look forward in the new year!
    Have a good Sunday ;)

  9. Snow is beautiful but it can throw a kink into plans sometimes. I'd love a nice pretty snowfall for Christmas. It's only happened one time in the SC Lowcountry in my entire 49 years so I'm not hopeful.

  12. Oh those pictures are gorgeous! It sounds like the perfect snow to me - blanketing all the trees and such with beauty but still able to drive.

Hopefully Adelaide and her girlfriends still had a fun weekend. As you say, nothing we can do about the weather but it sure can disappoint sometimes.

  13. I love snow!!! Have you taken a picture of Adelaide in her new dress? If it snows again maybe get a picture of her in the snow wearing her new dress, this way she gets a chance to wear the dress and enjoy the snow. I am hoping for a white Christmas here. I am glad you and your mom had so much fun. You are wise to enjoy every minute together.
    Blessings,
    Bren

  15. The snow is pretty-I saw loads in Germany but we haven't had any at our house here yet. Well, none that has hung around anyway. I'm okay with that...I know its coming. Sorry about Adelaide's dance...my youngest missed her semi formal a couple of weeks ago as her boyfriend had a very bad case of the stomach bug the whole weekend. She went for pictures with friends before hand but didn't go to the dance. There's a bigger one in the spring so hopefully that will work out for them.

  17. Oh,this all made me nostalgic! Your day spent with your Mom made me miss mine sooooo much, and she's been gone for almost 10 years. We don't get snow here in Southern California. I don't think people would know how to function if they had to deal with it. Sorry about the dance. Great pictures!

I will posting your tag in our last batch that arrive. I can't thank you enough for sharing your time and creativity with me. It has been such fun, and I can't wait for you to receive all your tags! 20. I am visiting your site through following the friends of a friend (lol). And I am so blessed to have found you! Congratulations and PRAISE GOD that you're cancer free!! And I love the photos of the snow and am so glad you're enjoying it. We live "up north" so we have tons of it all winter and it's not so fun to deal with in these large amounts.
Anyway... I'm going to keep peeking around in your beautiful site and am blessed to get to know you.

  23. What a lovely blog you have. So glad you got a great report. Wonderful news.

I adnired your christmas cushion, I still have the pattern for that somewhere in my stash, I never finished mine, though I did do a couple of motifs and made them into decorations (must be 25 years ago).

We're sweltering here in hot and humid heat with the threat of a storm hovering above us. Just love looking at all that snow.

  28. South Carolina Furniture and Snow! Oh what a blessing! Truly magical! I wanted to let you know I have posted about our Valentine Exchange. Because the day comes so quickly, and the holidays are so hectic, I wanted everyone to have lots of time to create at their leisure. You can choose to just swap one Valentine with me, and you can also choose to make a few extra to "exchange" with others who would contact you personally. Again, thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us! Elizabeth

  29. FLS is so overwhelming, especially when you take a teenager to go pick out their bedroom furniture. I learned my lesson the hard way several years back and so when we were buying #3 her new furniture, I looked on line first, then went to local furniture stores here in Raleigh that carried the line we had chosen to make sure it was what we wanted and then called FLS to price and order it. I completely avoided having to go there at all this time. Whew!

  32. Those pictures are GORGEOUS!!!!! I love the first significant snowfall. Lorelei Gilmore (from the Gilmore Girls) had it right when she said there is something magical about snow. Everything just seems perfect. I am really hoping we will still get a white Christmas.

I'll have lots of food blogs over the next couple of days so stop in.

  41. Oh, how beautiful! I wish we'd gotten some of that snow in D.C. I know it can be a pain, but it's so lovely when it first falls.

Hmm, I was intrigued by Adelaide's White Rose Formal. Is she a Kappa Delta???
